Youth Empowerment via Productivity

In line with the National Youth Strategy and the Government’s Vision 2050 Plans, the National Capital District (NCD) is in charge of implementing the Urban Youth Employment Project Phase Two (UYEP 2).

UYEP 1, which ran from 2011 to 2019, was a success, and UYEP 2 has been given permission to continue in NCD and spread to Lae in Morobe Province.

The project is being done in NCD by the NCDC, led by City Manager Ravu Frank. The first group of 53 young people from Ward One in Hanuabada to join UYEP II starts today, April 24, 2023. They are between the ages of 16 and 29.

The project aims to make it easier for young men and women in problematic areas, including those with disabilities, to get jobs that bring in money. The goal is to have 50 percent of the participants be women.

The project is a joint effort between the government and the World Bank. It was accepted in April 2020 and signed in July, and work on it started in July 2021.
