Fiji has plenty of tech experts

Hiring a new team of local developers to create the application from scratch for a start-up business with many of its activities conducted digitally can be viewed as a risk, but this is exactly what was done with great success for the Sole Fintech app.

Mereia Volavola, the sole chief executive officer, is extremely complimentary of the local talent the company was able to hire for the creation, ongoing debugging, and maintenance of the Sole mobile application.

The software has been operating without any significant issues or glitches as testing is about to end.

Ms. Volavola emphasized the effectiveness of the young local staffs, some of whom even worked remotely when the job permitted.

“We believe in our people. We believe in our team, and when you do, you given them an empowerment, she said.

“We are committed to developing our local talent. “Our crew is here; if we run into anissue we don’t have to worry about them being overseas in a different time zone,” she said. “When the capabilities exist here, there’s no reason to outsource the work.”

The business also engages in outreach and education to encourage the usage of their apps in rural and suburban regions, much of which is carried out by young people. We’re not here to discourage anyone from trying.

“We should give people the chance to pursue unconventional ideas if they have the capacity to do so.

And she added, “I’m really proud of these young people who can get their teams together, meet down with the elders, and discuss how financial transactions may be made simpler for them.

Once fully functioning, the company plans to grow and expects to hire more skilled local tech experts because it has already established for itself that Fiji has a vibrant, computer-savvy workforce.
