TechInPacific – Residents of Namosi Villages voiced out their concerns over the one-sided developments undertaking the area.

One resident, Petero Saunivalu says the development is not considering the interdependence of the residents to the natural resources.

It does certainly sound like an upcoming environmental problem, but the team from the development were not giving in-depth consultation with the residents either, and thus, putting more tension on the situation.

According to Saunivalu, there hasn’t been once a chance for them to see any environmental plan for the development of the mining industry.

“They are using the excuse of Namosi being under prospect and not in mining.

“This has been the cause of frustration for us up there and I won’t hesitate to voice the concerns of the mataqali.”

But Environmental Impact Assessment is just as important as part of the development transparency, Saunivalu adds. Without the assessment, the development might be less systematic and effective in return.
