NGO partners with Demand for Change to to help with women in PNG

Mama Halpim Mama Foundation and Demand for Change, women-led NGOs in Southern Highlands Province, recently joined forces at the Kagua Erave district administration office.

Ruth Undi, who started the Mama Halpim Mama Foundation, signed a partnership for K10,000 to help set up its office.

Ludwig Orapawa, who works for the Kagua Erave district administration, and more than 60 members of the Civil Rights Movement were there to see the event. Mrs. Undi told the government that women are the backbone of society and should be given more power.

When four women were burned alive and killed in the Aiya LLG last month because they were accused of sorcery, the Kagua Erave district was in the news.

Mrs. Undi is working to stop SARV and other violence against women all over PNG.

The Kagua Erave district administration is the first in the province to accept and use the SHP Women Advocacy Plan. This plan was given to the SHP administration at the UN Women forum in Walum, Imbonggu District, in November 2021, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
