Rice project to be tested at Milne Bay school

The Divinai Primary School is ready to start a pilot rice project, which the Milne Bay Provincial Department of Agriculture and Livestock will run.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency, which started the project, has returned the rice project to the province. This means that the project will finally get off the ground.

Now that the holidays are over, we’re back to work on all of the Department’s other projects in the province, starting with the rice project at Divinai Primary School, said Skipa Christopher, a DAL officer, and Project Coordinator.

Christopher said that most of the work in the 20×20 rice field was done by teachers and students from the Primary school.

Misima and Wesley High Schools will now have to pay for the project. Teachers and students will be taught how to grow and cultivate rice.
