Enhanced ICT Collaboration in PNG

On September 13, 2023, the Minister for Information and Communication Technology of PNG was updated about the strengthened commitment towards enhanced ICT collaboration between the Chinese Government, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and PNG. This development followed Minister Masiu’s recent visit to Shenzhen City, China, where he attended a two-day workshop. This event, co-organized by the Chinese Ministry of Industry & Information Technology and the ITU, focused on ‘Building a Digital Future for All’ and the 2023 BRICS Forum’s ‘Future Networks Innovation.’

Minister Masiu expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received, emphasizing the need for a more robust Pacific representation in global ICT bodies like the ITU and the UN. During his visit, he also highlighted the successful acquisition of additional ICT initiatives for PNG. Furthermore, in a gesture of cooperation, China has offered 10 academic scholarships for PNG students and initiated five ‘connect the schools’ projects in PNG.
