Solar Drying Revolutionizes Vanilla Farming in PNG

The collaborative effort between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the EU-STREIT PNG Programme has introduced Vanilla Solar Dryers to the Sepik Region of Papua New Guinea.

This eco-friendly technology is poised to transform vanilla production, bringing benefits to more than 1,000 rural households and 40 farmer groups.

Distributed across nine locations, 199 solar dryers streamline the drying process, preserve bean quality, and significantly reduce curing time.

Beyond enhancing local farmers’ incomes, this initiative strategically positions Papua New Guinea as a competitive player in the global vanilla market.

Comprehensive training accompanies the distribution of these solar dryers, ensuring a holistic approach to sustainable and high-quality vanilla production that adheres to international standards.
